  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup red frosting store-bought or homemade

  • Optional: edible blood made from corn syrup and red food coloring

Instructions

  • Follow these simple steps to create your spooktacular Bloody Cupcakes:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with cupcake liners.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In another bowl, beat the eggs and then add the vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and buttermilk. Mix until well combined.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  • Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full.
  • Bake for 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cupcakes to cool completely on a wire rack.
  • Once cooled, frost the tops with chocolate frosting, then drizzle or spread the red frosting on top to create a 'bloody' effect.
  • If desired, add edible blood for an extra spooky touch!
